Land is at a premium on Sydney’s sought after Northern Beaches with some older suburbs, like Newport, having smaller blocks. We’ve been building pools on the Northern Beaches for 50+ years so are very familiar with the area. When it comes to building pools in these areas, clever design and construction expertise is key.
While undergoing extensive renovations to this Newport home, the addition of a swimming pool was top of the owner’s wish list. They had already conceived some very clever ideas for the pool and, after lots of consultation (and some small changes), we turned these into a reality.
As the photos attest, there simply wasn’t the backyard space available to integrate what some might consider a “traditional pool” (i.e. large rectangle or kidney shape). The owners wanted to maximise the outdoor entertaining area while allocating enough space to a functional pool that could be enjoyed by multiple people at any one time.
The result was an irregular shaped pool with the addition of clever landscaping, some design tricks and a ‘floating’ sundeck.
The addition of tiled stepping stones at the edge of the pool surround was a simple yet clever way to provide (dry) access to the gardens and sundeck. By using a stylish limestone tile, this floating pathway became a stunning design feature.
A large privacy wall provided another design issue. To break it up we added a large, rectangular mirror creating the illusion of more space, giving the pool area more depth.
Again, to create the illusion of more space, we opted for a lighter mosaic tile. The use of light-coloured limestone and lime-washed timber decking made the area brighter and appear more spacious. On the feature wall we used mottled travertine tiles which was broken up by a vertical timber design feature.
Seamless exterior glass pool fencing and glass shutters meant there was a seamless flow and aesthetic from the outdoor entertaining area and house to the pool with minimal obstructions.
All carefully thought-out by the owners, Wright Pools and landscape designers.
Subtle lighting and the addition of the water feature finished off this pool build making it a striking and stylish addition to this property day and night.
